MARY FARRELL, Registered Psychotherapist

Mary Farrell, Registered PsychotherapistB.A (Hons), PGCE, Post Grad Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling, MNZAP

I have been in private practice as a psychotherapist and counsellor for the last twenty years. I completed my education and training in the UK and was the director of counselling for the British Law Society seeing students and staff at their College of Law in Chester.

In 1995 I emigrated to New Zealand with my husband and son and have since become one of the first fully registered psychotherapists in New Zealand.

My approach is intersubjective. In other words, I look at all the relationships you have had in your life and help you to make sense of patterns that have always been there. By taking a full family history, I help you to trace the ways in which your own personality has developed and this helps you pinpoint the difficulties that are holding you back and causing you problems.

My speciality areas are relationship difficulties, depression, grief and loss. I work with same sex and heterosexual couples. I have a particular interest in mentoring members of the medical profession and see several doctors, helping them to debrief and come to terms with the daily trauma they often experience. I also offer supervision to members of all the helping professions.
